Ad Astra ensures that our students learn for life. Our bespoke teaching gives them the knowledge they need to prepare for their future.
Unlike many other ALPs we work in partnership with schools to deliver GCSEs and functional skills qualifications alongside our outdoor education provision.
We work in close partnership with learners, their families and schools to plan and review a bespoke package of education and training.
We strive to put practical learning at the heart of every activity. Our in house education team then plan for opportunities to apply these skills and transfer understanding in a more formal learning environment.
Ad Astra are proud to work in partnership with Lower Derwent Valley NNR to deliver our educational packages.
Our work is closely linked to a planned conservation agenda, meaning that all activities are real life, with significant and meaningful outcomes. Pupils have the opportunity to opportunity to ring and record chicks, make bird boxes, record the wildlife living within the reserve and ensure maintenance of the reserve is met.
The pupils' attitudes towards learning outdoors and being so close to the wildlife is simply outstanding,.They are constantly learning new things and we have found that they are now taking up birdwatching as a hobby - something they would never have thought about until they joined Ad Astra!
We have seen and recorded such species as:
And these sightings were recorded in one day!!
